Where did the America I know go?

j flag

I remember waking up every Sunday as a kid in the 1970’s and knowing exactly what was about to happen.  Breakfast would be ready in a few minutes, consisting of eggs, bacon, biscuits and oatmeal.   A glass of orange juice and maybe if I pleaded enough a cup of coffee just like Dads.

After breakfast it was bath time, not a deluxe bath with bubbles or toys, but a quick its time to go to church bath.  Then we were in the car and off the the General Baptist Church.

Church began with Sunday school, sort of a school setting, but someone’s Mom was the teacher and it really seemed to be a mixture of art meets God than anything else.  I didn’t realize it at the time, but Sunday School is where I not only met my God, but learned about him.  Those teachers were impacting my life in ways I would not understand for years, and they never knew….or did they?

After Sunday School we went upstairs, sang a few songs and then listened to the preacher pound the podium as if his shouting would save us from the devil’s grasp.  You know I don’t remember a single thing the preacher said……..but I remember the lessons from the basement.

As if by magic coloring those work sheets, listening to my Sunday School teacher I learned the Bible, and that my friend is what is missing from America today.

The America I remember did not go anywhere, what changed was the Americans.  In the 1960’s it seemed every one took their children to church, and then something changed.  America changed because the heart and soul of this nation (it’s children) were not introduced to God.

Have you introduced your children to God?

Pray with me,

Dear Lord we come to you today first to thank you, we thank you for our lives and the very fact we are alive.  We thank you for the pain you endured so that we might live and for the grace you provide with the forgiveness of our sins.

Lord we come to  you today asking for guidance as we introduce our children to you.  We ask that you reach out to them as you have to us, helping them to understand the word of your father as well as the promise land.

Lord we ask these things in your name, Amen.

Spend to day in thought, how might you help your child love the Lord……..
