A relationship with God is pretty simple to have, read your Bible and praying every day are great ways to start, seems simple. However, for some it is but a dream.
I recently met a gentleman named Chester, a resident of a local nursing home he came to the Lord late in life. Just talking to him you can tell he is sincere in his love of Christ. He craves to learn, I read to him, not much just a hour per week. Honestly I get much more from the experience than he does, but together we grow with God.
But he only gets a hour per week. I can read the Bible whenever I want, I own a dozen copies, have another on my phone not to mention what is available on the internet. But Chester is blind, darkness cuts him off from the God. The darkness I can only imagine, yet the kind that haunts my dreams…..
Chester lives his life waiting, just waiting for Friday morning so he can hear the word of God…………. What holds you back? Why are you not reading your Bible every day?
What keeps you in the dark? Is it blindness, or a lack of effort?
I too take for granted what Chester can only dream of and though I feel for Chester I hardly take advantage of my ability to read the word of God at nearly any moment. Some weeks the only time I read the Bible outside of preparation to share the word is with Chester. I am ashamed of my failures, my shortcomings because I am so busy living life that I fail to live my Christian life.
Join me in prayer; Dear Lord we come to you today first to thank you for the very life you have provided, but most of all to thank you for the love you have for man and the forgiveness you have provided. We ask you to forgive our sins, to open our hearts and help us understand your word. Lord help us to remember how special the time is we spend with you not only in prayer but in the reading of the Gospel. Lord walk with us as we learn to walk with you …….these things we ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.
